Across Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas, and Oklahoma, Brookshire Grocery Co. is once again mobilizing communities through its annual “Compassion in Action Food Drive,” an initiative designed to support local food banks and pantries during the challenging summer months. Running now through Tuesday, June 23, the effort invites customers at Brookshire’s, Super 1 Foods, Spring Market, FRESH by Brookshire’s, Reasor’s, and FRESH by Reasor’s to give at checkout, ensuring that donations directly support families in their own communities. The campaign reflects the biblical call found in Proverbs 19:17, “Whoever is kind to the poor lends to the Lord, and He will reward them for what they have done.”
MEETING COMMUNITY NEEDS THROUGH FAITH IN ACTION
Organizers say the food drive is especially vital during the summer, when many food assistance programs face increased demand and limited resources. Every dollar donated stays within the local area, helping food banks provide meals for families experiencing hardship. Leaders emphasize that hunger is not just a physical issue, but a community responsibility that calls for compassion and unity. James 2:15–16 reminds believers that faith without action is incomplete, stating that if someone is in need of food and clothing, it is not enough to offer words without practical help. This initiative seeks to turn compassion into tangible support.
A CORPORATE COMMITMENT TO CARING FOR NEIGHBORS
Brookshire Grocery Co. Interim CEO Jerry LeClair highlighted the company’s ongoing commitment to serving the communities where its stores operate. He noted that caring for neighbors is at the heart of the organization’s mission and that the “Compassion in Action Food Drive” provides an opportunity for customers and partners to join together in making a meaningful difference. The effort underscores the belief that businesses can serve as instruments of good when they invest in the well-being of families. Galatians 6:2 encourages believers to “carry each other’s burdens,” a principle reflected in the company’s outreach efforts.
STRENGTHENING COMMUNITIES THROUGH SHARED GENEROSITY
Local food banks are expected to benefit significantly from the drive as donations help meet growing needs during the summer season. Community leaders say partnerships like this not only provide immediate relief but also strengthen the long-term resilience of neighborhoods. When residents participate in giving, they help build a culture of generosity and care. Acts 20:35 reminds believers of Christ’s words: “It is more blessed to give than to receive,” a truth echoed in the spirit of the food drive as families, customers, and employees unite to support those in need.
A CALL TO COMPASSION AND FAITHFUL SERVICE
The initiative serves as a reminder that small acts of giving can have a lasting impact on struggling families. By simply donating at checkout, customers become part of a larger mission to fight food insecurity and bring hope to their communities. Leaders hope the drive will inspire ongoing generosity beyond the summer months, encouraging residents to remain attentive to the needs of their neighbors. Proverbs 22:9 states, “The generous will themselves be blessed, for they share their food with the poor,” reinforcing the spiritual significance of helping others.
