A Gift That Keeps Giving: Lafayette Friends Turn $1,000 Into a Blessing

LAFAYETTE, La. — A simple act of generosity is reminding the Lafayette community that sometimes the greatest blessings are the ones we choose to give away. What began as a $1,000 opportunity to “pay it forward” became a meaningful birthday surprise for a local artist and a powerful example of friendship, compassion, and generosity.

Each month, Bob Giles of Giles Automotive gives a stranger $1,000 with one condition: They must choose someone they know—not a relative—to receive the money. The recipient can be a friend, neighbor, coworker, church member, or someone else who could use a helping hand.

A Choice Made From the Heart

When Carley Dupre was presented with the opportunity alongside Ben Crawford, she did not hesitate. She immediately knew who she wanted to bless: her friend Christopher Isaac.

Dupre and Isaac know one another through Lafayette’s art community. Dupre is an artist, while Isaac has been involved in art exhibits. With Isaac’s birthday recently passing, Dupre saw an opportunity to do more than simply wish her friend a happy birthday.

Dupre explained that life can sometimes bring unexpected challenges and that Isaac consistently shows up for his friends. For her, the $1,000 was an opportunity to show that the kindness he regularly gives to others can also come back to him.

Her decision reflects the words of Proverbs 11:25, which says, “A generous person will prosper; whoever refreshes others will be refreshed.” Dupre chose to become a source of encouragement for someone who had spent time encouraging others.

An Unexpected Birthday Surprise

Isaac had no idea what was coming when Giles and the team arrived to surprise him. He was told that his friends had been given an opportunity to select someone to receive the monthly $1,000 gift—and that they had selected him.

The surprise quickly turned into disbelief as Isaac opened the gift and counted ten $100 bills.

His reaction captured the unexpected nature of the moment. He expressed gratitude to Dupre and everyone involved, recognizing the generosity behind the gift.

The Bible teaches in Acts 20:35, “It is more blessed to give than to receive.” While Isaac was certainly blessed by the money, Dupre and the people behind the program experienced the joy of being able to bless someone else.

A Practical Blessing at the Right Time

When asked what he planned to do with the money, Isaac gave a simple answer: rent.

For many people, unexpected expenses can create significant stress. A gift arriving at the right moment can provide more than financial assistance—it can offer breathing room, encouragement, and a reminder that someone cares.

Scripture encourages believers in Galatians 6:2 to “carry each other’s burdens,” and this story demonstrates how that principle can be lived out in everyday life. Dupre recognized a need and responded with compassion.

The Power of Paying It Forward

The monthly tradition created by Giles is more than a cash giveaway. It creates a chain of generosity in which one person is entrusted with a blessing and then asked to pass it along to someone else.

That simple idea reflects the heart of Matthew 5:16, where Jesus teaches His followers to let their light shine before others so that their good works can point people toward God.

In a world where generosity can sometimes seem uncommon, stories like this remind us that kindness does not have to be complicated. A friend can make a difference. A stranger can become a blessing. And one generous decision can create a ripple effect far beyond the original gift.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You for the gift of generosity and for people who are willing to bless others without expecting anything in return. We pray for Christopher Isaac, Carley Dupre, Bob Giles, and everyone involved in this act of kindness. Provide for those facing financial burdens, unexpected expenses, and difficult seasons. Give our community compassionate hearts that recognize opportunities to help those around us. Teach us to give freely, serve faithfully, and encourage others with the blessings You have placed in our hands. May acts of kindness throughout Lafayette become reminders of Your love and grace. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
