LAFAYETTE, La. — Just as a child finds safety by staying close to a loving parent, believers find their greatest security by remaining near to their Heavenly Father. A simple childhood experience serves as a powerful reminder of this spiritual truth.
A father watched in alarm as his young son eagerly ran ahead to an elevator despite being told to wait. Before the father could reach him, the elevator doors closed, separating them. Frantically searching floor after floor, the father called his son’s name until he finally found him wandering alone. Though the child was safe, the frightening experience taught him an unforgettable lesson about the importance of staying close to his father.
God Calls Us to Remain Near
The Christian life presents many distractions and spiritual dangers that can draw believers away from God. Satan seeks every opportunity to lead people into fear, temptation, and discouragement. Yet the Bible offers a comforting promise in James 4:8: “Draw near to God, and He will draw near to you.” As believers intentionally seek the Lord through prayer, worship, and His Word, they discover His guidance, strength, and peace.
Jesus also reminded His followers in John 15:5, “I am the vine; you are the branches… apart from Me you can do nothing.” Spiritual victory is never achieved through human strength alone but by remaining connected to Christ every day.
A Time to Walk Closely with the Lord
In a world filled with uncertainty, now is not the time to drift away from God. Instead, Christians are called to deepen their relationship with Him and trust His faithful leadership. Psalm 46:1 declares, “God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.” Staying close to the Lord provides the courage and wisdom needed to face life’s challenges with confidence.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, thank You for Your constant love and faithful presence. Help us remain close to You each day and never wander from Your truth. Strengthen us when we face temptation, fear, or uncertainty, and guide our steps according to Your Word. We pray for our families and communities, asking that they find peace, hope, and security in Your loving care. May we always walk faithfully with You and trust in Your unfailing promises. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
