COMMUNITY VOICES TO PLAY KEY ROLE IN PARK IMPROVEMENTS
LAFAYETTE, La. — Lafayette Consolidated Government officials are inviting residents to participate in an upcoming public meeting focused on the future of Mouton Park, offering community members an opportunity to help shape improvements that could benefit generations to come.
The meeting, hosted by Lafayette Consolidated Government’s Community Development and Planning Department in partnership with Lafayette City Council Chair Kenneth Boudreaux, is scheduled for 6 p.m. on August 25 at the Domingue Recreation Center, located at 901 Mudd Avenue.
City leaders say the gathering is designed to hear directly from residents, park users, and families who utilize Mouton Park on a regular basis. Participants will have the opportunity to share what they value most about the park, discuss their experiences, and offer ideas for future amenities and improvements.
For many in the community, parks are more than recreational spaces. They are places where families gather, children play, neighbors build friendships, and communities grow stronger together.
LEADERS EMPHASIZE THE IMPORTANCE OF COMMUNITY INPUT
Mayor-President Monique Boulet stressed that public participation is essential to the planning process.
“Community input is an important part of planning for the future of our parks,” Boulet said. “We want to hear directly from residents and those who use Mouton Park so their experiences and priorities can help guide future improvements.”
Council Chair Kenneth Boudreaux echoed those sentiments, encouraging residents to attend and make their voices heard.
“The people who live in this community and use this park know firsthand what is needed,” Boudreaux said. “Their input can help shape improvements that will benefit the community for years to come.”
The invitation reflects a growing recognition that meaningful community development happens when local leaders listen to the people they serve. Proverbs 15:22 teaches, “Plans fail for lack of counsel, but with many advisers they succeed.” By seeking public input, city officials are acknowledging the wisdom and experiences of those who know the park best.
