GROW LA Initiative Brings Business Development Opportunities to Ville Platte Farmers and Entrepreneurs

VILLE PLATTE, LOUISIANA — Small farmers, agricultural producers, and aspiring business owners in Evangeline Parish will soon have an opportunity to strengthen their operations through a new round of business development workshops offered by the Southern University Agricultural Research and Extension Center.

The GROW LA (Growing Rural Opportunities through Workforce and Business Development, Louisiana) initiative will bring practical training and business assistance to Ville Platte on October 21 and October 28, 2026. The sessions will take place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Ville Platte Civic Center–Northside, located at 704 North Soileau Street. Both sessions are free, but advance registration is required.

From a Christian faith perspective, the initiative reflects the importance of equipping people with the knowledge and resources they need to support their families, strengthen their communities, and pursue meaningful work.

EMPOWERING FARMERS AND SMALL BUSINESS OWNERS

GROW LA is designed to connect Louisiana farmers, producers, entrepreneurs, and small business owners with information, technical assistance, and relationships that can help their operations grow.

Participants will learn about business formation, registration requirements, regulatory compliance, and programs offered through the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) and the Louisiana Small Business Development Center (LSBDC). Organizers will also provide individualized assistance to help participants identify practical next steps for their businesses.

Additional participating partners include the USDA Farm Service Agency, USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service, LSU AgCenter, LSBDC, and the Delta Regional Authority.

These partnerships bring together organizations with different areas of expertise, giving participants an opportunity to learn where to find resources and how to navigate programs that may otherwise seem complicated or difficult to access.

EARLIER WORKSHOPS SHOW PROMISING RESULTS

The Southern University Ag Center launched its pilot GROW LA initiative in Opelousas in August. According to the program information, 27 participants received practical guidance and connections to agricultural and business resources.

The workshops provided hands-on help with farm registration, obtaining farm serial numbers, establishing Login.gov accounts, locating USDA Service Centers, and understanding how to access federal programs.

For farmers and entrepreneurs working to establish or expand their operations, these administrative steps can be essential to accessing assistance and building a sustainable business. The Ville Platte sessions will continue the effort to bring that guidance directly into rural communities.

FAITH, WORK, AND RESPONSIBLE STEWARDSHIP

Scripture recognizes the value of preparation, diligence, and using available resources wisely. Proverbs 21:5 teaches that the plans of the diligent lead toward abundance, reminding believers that thoughtful preparation and consistent effort matter when pursuing long-term goals.

For small business owners, that principle can mean learning the requirements for operating legally, developing sound financial practices, and seeking guidance before making important decisions.

The initiative also reflects the biblical principle of helping others develop their abilities. In 1 Peter 4:10, believers are encouraged to use their gifts to serve one another. Programs that provide practical knowledge and access to resources can help individuals turn their skills, experience, and ideas into opportunities that benefit their families and neighbors.

REGISTRATION AND COMMUNITY PARTICIPATION

Residents interested in attending either GROW LA session can register online at https://bit.ly/4ynlt9S?r=qr. Because registration is required, prospective participants should complete the process before attending.

The workshops offer an opportunity for established farmers, new agricultural producers, and small business owners to ask questions, learn about available programs, and connect with organizations that may support their goals.

As rural communities work to strengthen their economies, access to reliable information and technical assistance can make a meaningful difference.

A PRAYER FOR VILLE PLATTE AND ITS ENTREPRENEURS

Heavenly Father, we thank You for the farmers, business owners, educators, and community leaders who work to build stronger futures for Louisiana families. Bless the Southern University Ag Center and its partners as they provide guidance and resources to those seeking to grow their businesses.

Give participants wisdom, confidence, and perseverance as they navigate challenges and pursue new opportunities. Provide for families facing financial uncertainty, encourage beginning farmers, and help established businesses continue serving their communities.

Lord, may these efforts produce lasting benefits throughout Ville Platte and the surrounding region. Teach us to work diligently, share our knowledge, and use our gifts to help others succeed.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.
