“The message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.” (1 Corinthians 1:18)
A couple visited a jewelry store, where the woman asked if there were crosses without “this little man on them.” Many today want a cross without Jesus, seeking a symbol without offense. However, the cross was originally a gruesome and shameful form of execution. Romans used crucifixion to brutally execute criminals and dissenters, making it a symbol of fear and warning.
God allowed His Son to suffer on the cross because it was the only way to forgive humanity’s sins. If there had been another way, Jesus would not have died. His death on the cross was necessary to purchase salvation for the world. The cross stands as the ultimate display of God’s love, showing that Jesus willingly endured such suffering out of love for humanity.
