A Daily Call to Be Filled
In a culture that often equates being “spirit-filled” with emotional highs or fleeting moments of inspiration, Ephesians 5:17–18 offers a deeper truth: “Don’t act thoughtlessly, but try to understand what the Lord wants you to do… Instead, be filled with the Holy Spirit.” The original Greek reveals that this is not a one-time event, but a continual command—an invitation to daily surrender. Just as a sailboat moves only when filled with wind, so too are believers called to move under the guidance of the Holy Spirit.
Controlled by the Spirit, Not the World
Being filled with the Spirit means being controlled by Him—not by our impulses, culture, or distractions. It’s not about emotionalism; it’s about alignment. Romans 8:14 reminds us, “For those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God.” When we allow the Spirit to guide our decisions, our relationships, and our responses, we reflect the character of Christ in a world desperate for authenticity.
A Command, Not a Suggestion
Ephesians 5:18 doesn’t offer a polite suggestion—it gives a divine directive. God knows that intimacy with Him through His Spirit is the key to lasting joy, peace, and purpose. Galatians 5:22–23 describes the fruit of such a life: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. These are not manufactured by effort but cultivated through surrender.
A Prayer for Our Community
Lord, we thank You for the gift of Your Holy Spirit. Help us to live each day filled and guided by You—not by our emotions or the pressures of this world. Teach us to seek Your will, to listen for Your voice, and to walk in obedience. May our lives be vessels of Your grace, power, and truth. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
