“The generous will prosper; those who refresh others will themselves be refreshed.” – Proverbs 11:25
An infamous pirate named Juan Carlos was renowned for his thievery and rumored to have buried treasure hidden somewhere. One day, a man approached Juan Carlos in Mexico, pushed him to the ground, and demanded, “Tell me where all your money is buried, or I will kill you right here on the spot!”
Since Juan Carlos did not speak English, he needed an interpreter. Spotting a nearby boy, he called him over to translate. The boy relayed the man’s message to Juan Carlos, who, fearing for his life, instructed the boy to tell the man that the money was located 30 paces north of the city water tower, under a large rock.
However, instead of conveying Juan Carlos’s message accurately, the boy told the man, “Juan Carlos says he is an honorable man and that he will never tell you where the money is. Juan Carlos says, kill him now.”
This story illustrates how some people, once they have something, are unwilling to let it go. However, the Bible teaches us the principle of giving. As we give, God promises to provide for us abundantly. In 2 Corinthians 9:8, it says, “And God will generously provide all you need. Then you will always have everything you need and plenty left over to share with others” (NLT).
This aligns with Jesus’ teaching in Luke 6:38, “Give, and you will receive. Your gift will return to you in full—pressed down, shaken together to make room for more, running over, and poured into your lap. The amount you give will determine the amount you get back” (NLT).
As God blesses us, we are also able to bless others.
