Hispanic Heritage Month: A Taste of Mexico in Abbeville

Hispanic Heritage Month, celebrated annually from September 15 to October 15, is a time to honor the rich cultural heritage and contributions of Latinos. This year, the month-long celebration kicks off with a vibrant tribute to Mexican cuisine and culture right here in Abbeville.

Nestled in the heart of Abbeville, Jalisco Mexican Grill offers a tantalizing glimpse into the flavors of Mexico. This family-owned restaurant serves authentic dishes like birria tacos and molcajete, a flavorful medley of meats and vegetables.

Maria Hernandez, the proud owner of Jalisco Mexican Grill, shares her passion for Mexican cuisine and her gratitude for the community’s support. She and her husband, along with their partners, have been serving delicious Mexican food for nearly eight years.

“We are very happy that people support our business,” Hernandez says. “Our American Dream is to continue growing.” Her dream wouldn’t be possible without the unwavering support of the community, as evidenced by the steady stream of customers who frequent Jalisco Mexican Grill.

Cheryl Jeanfreau, a longtime customer, praises the restaurant’s delicious food and excellent service. “We come here often,” she says. “It’s not far, the food is great, and the service is good.”

Realizing the American Dream can be a challenging journey, but Hernandez emphasizes the importance of perseverance. “You can do it,” she says. “If your dream is to have a business, put in the work, you can do it. There were nights without sleep, working all day without eating, but (all that sacrifice) is worth it.”
