Just last week, on October 2, a day honoring our Guardian Angels was celebrated by Christians Worldwide. In Psalm 91:11, we are reminded that “He will command His angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways.” This verse speaks to the powerful presence of angels in our lives, guiding and protecting us as we navigate the challenges and opportunities that come our way.
The Role of Angels
Angels are often depicted as messengers of God, sent to communicate His will and provide assistance to those in need. However, their role extends far beyond simply delivering messages. Angels are also tasked with inspiring us to follow God’s ways rather than our own.
Throughout the Bible, we find numerous examples of angels guiding people toward the right path. For instance, the angel of the Lord appeared to Abraham, instructing him to leave his homeland and journey to a new place. In the New Testament, angels played a crucial role in the life of Jesus, appearing to Him at key moments and providing guidance and encouragement.
How Angels Inspire Us
Angels inspire us to follow God’s ways in a variety of ways. They may:
- Provide guidance: Angels can offer us clarity and direction when we are feeling lost or uncertain. (Luke 1:19)
- Offer encouragement: Angels can provide us with the strength and courage we need to persevere in difficult times. (Hebrews 1:14)
- Protect us: Angels can shield us from harm and danger. (Luke 4:10)
A Prayer for Guidance
Heavenly Father, we thank you for the presence of your angels in our lives. We ask that you guide us through your Holy Spirit, inspiring us to follow your ways and not our own. Protect us from harm and danger and grant us the strength and courage we need to overcome challenges and to make decisions and choices that more perfectly align with your divine plan. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.

Angel of God, my guardian dear,
To whom God’s love commits me here,
Ever this day, be at my side,
To light, to guard, to rule, and guide.
