Cinnamon: A Sweet and Sacred Defense Against Alzheimer’s

LAFAYETTE, LA — For centuries, cinnamon has been treasured for its flavor, fragrance, and health benefits. Now, new research suggests that this common kitchen spice may do more than enhance food—it may also protect the brain. Scientists at the University of California, Santa Barbara, have found that cinnamon contains compounds—cinnamaldehyde and epicatechin—that help prevent the formation of tau protein tangles in the brain, which are linked to Alzheimer’s disease.

A Natural Shield from the Creator

The study, published in the Journal of Alzheimer’s Disease, describes these cinnamon compounds as powerful antioxidants that may shield the brain, much like a hat protects the skin from sunburn. As Psalm 103:2-5 reminds us, “Praise the Lord, my soul, and forget not all his benefits—who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases… who satisfies your desires with good things so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.” God’s healing can come through what He’s already placed in creation—like cinnamon.

Faith, Wisdom, and Daily Stewardship

Incorporating natural, God-given foods into our diet is part of honoring the temple He has given us. While cinnamon is not a cure, its protective properties, when combined with faith, good nutrition, and an active life, may help slow or even prevent cognitive decline. Proverbs 3:7-8 encourages, “Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord and shun evil. This will bring health to your body and nourishment to your bones.”

Prayer for the Community

Gracious Lord,
Thank You for the wisdom revealed through Your creation. We pray for those facing memory loss and Alzheimer’s disease. May Your healing hand rest upon them. Lead us in caring for our minds and bodies with wisdom and faith. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
