Head Start Returns Education to Historic Holy Rosary Campus

A New Beginning for a Sacred Space
On Tuesday, Prime Time, a nonprofit dedicated to early childhood education, officially opened a satellite Head Start program on the grounds of the historic Holy Rosary Institute. Nearly 60 children are now attending preschool classes at the site—the first classes held there in almost 30 years. As Isaiah 43:19 declares, “See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it?” This milestone marks the rebirth of a place once dedicated to faith and education.

Revitalization in Progress
The ribbon cutting outside Windolph Hall was the fruit of years of planning and fundraising. Demolition of smaller buildings on campus is set to begin this week, with major renovations of the main structure to follow in October. The master plan includes not only classrooms but also a new Northeast library, a career development center, and permanent facilities for Head Start. Board President Dustin Cravins reflected, “We couldn’t be more thankful to have young people back on this historic campus.” Ecclesiastes 3:1 reminds us, “To everything there is a season…a time to plant and a time to build.” This is indeed a season of rebuilding.

Investing in Children and Families
Head Start currently serves about 300 children across Lafayette, offering free education to low-income families with children ages six weeks to five years old. State Senator Gerald Boudreaux and Representative Tehmi Chassion both voiced support for the program. Chassion, once a Head Start student himself, proudly held up a shirt he made 41 years ago as a young participant. Truly, as Proverbs 22:6 teaches, “Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it.”

Prayer for the Community
Heavenly Father, we thank You for the revival of Holy Rosary and the blessing of education for children and families in Lafayette. May this campus once again be a light of learning, faith, and opportunity. Guide the teachers, parents, and leaders who make this vision possible. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
