LAFAYETTE, La. – A single mother in Lafayette witnessed her lifelong dream of homeownership come true through the support of Habitat for Humanity, Warrick Dunn Charities, and the providence of God’s grace.
Kayla Moten, along with her two children, received the keys to her very own home this week. What she thought would be a simple signing of documents turned into a joyful surprise when retired NFL player Warrick Dunn presented her with an additional $5,000 in down payment assistance and a fully furnished home.
“Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above” (James 1:17). Moten expressed overwhelming gratitude, sharing, “I am grateful eternally for myself and my children. I never dreamed my home ownership would look like this, but God’s vision came to life today.”
A Mission Rooted in Sacrifice and Love
For Warrick Dunn, this was the 244th home celebration in his 28-year mission to bless families in need—a calling inspired by his late mother, a Baton Rouge police officer who died in the line of duty. “I knew her dream was to provide a home for our family,” Dunn shared, honoring her legacy by ensuring others can achieve what she longed for.
“Plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future” (Jeremiah 29:11) is the scripture that reflects this moment of hope for the Moten family.
Community of Faith and Support
Moten’s gratitude echoed the spirit of community, saying, “I did not realize there was truly this much support for just my family, and that is overwhelming.” The joy in her heart testified to God’s provision through the hands of others.
A Prayer for the Community
Heavenly Father, we thank You for blessing Kayla and her children with a safe and loving home. May it be filled with peace, joy, and Your presence. We ask You to continue strengthening the hands of those, like Habitat and Warrick Dunn, who serve as vessels of Your love. Bless every family still waiting for a home of their own. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
