Celebrating Servant Hearts in the Community
LAFAYETTE, La. — The spirit of service and creativity shone brightly Thursday night at the Undercurrent Awards, hosted at the Acadiana Center for the Arts and simulcast on local news stations. The event, led by Lafayette native and CBS News contributor David Begnaud, honored citizens whose compassion and commitment are transforming their community. Each honoree received a 2025 Wavemaker Award for using their God-given gifts to serve others.

Faith in Action: Building and Inspiring Through Service
Among the honorees were Anna Kojevnikov and Allison Nederveld, founders of the Lafayette Tool Library, a free service allowing residents to borrow and learn to use tools — a mission rooted in generosity and empowerment. Bree Sargent, of the Acadiana Center for the Arts, was recognized for 23 years of enriching classrooms through art, helping students discover creativity as a path to learning and self-worth.

Honoring Culture, Heritage, and Healing
Luis Mora, founder of the Asociación Cultural Latino-Acadiana, was celebrated for decades of cultural bridge-building through Lafayette’s annual Latin Festival, a joyful expression of unity. Erica Melancon Fox, founder of Maison Freetown, was honored for preserving Lafayette’s Black and Creole history, ensuring stories of faith, resilience, and artistry endure for generations. The evening also honored local attorney Glenn Armentor, who recently announced his Parkinson’s diagnosis and launched the Glenn Armentor Parkinson’s Project to support families in need — a powerful example of perseverance through faith.
