Artmosphere Reopens With New Life, New Leadership, and a Heart for Lafayette’s Culture

A New Flavor and a New Beginning for a Beloved Venue

LAFAYETTE, La. — If you want to understand the rebirth of the iconic Artmosphere music venue, start with the sauce—literally. The downtown Lafayette gathering place, now under the care of Marcela and Justin Bennett, has become known for its rich, unforgettable red sauce served atop meatballs and gnocchi. It’s the kind of dish that makes visitors pause, savor, and smile.

This renewed sense of warmth and welcome inside Artmosphere echoes Psalm 34:8, “Taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the one who takes refuge in him.” In a similar way, the Bennetts hope their food, atmosphere, and music will offer the Lafayette community a refuge of joy, connection, and culture.

A Homecoming of Talent, Passion, and Purpose

Marcela, a Houston native, built her culinary career in New York City, working under renowned Food Network chef Alex Guarnaschelli at Butter. Her husband Justin, a Brooklyn-born son of a blues musician, grew up immersed in hospitality, food, and the arts. The two eventually chose to plant their roots in Lafayette—a city they grew to love during visits with Marcela’s family.

This move reflects the biblical call of Jeremiah 29:7, which encourages God’s people to “seek the peace and prosperity of the city” where God places them. The Bennetts are doing just that—pouring their talent into a community they now call home.

Rebuilding a Cultural Landmark With Heart

Since purchasing Artmosphere in the spring, the Bennetts have quietly transformed the quirky house at 902 Johnston Street. The venue now hosts live bands, trivia nights, singles’ events, and community gatherings in a refreshed, spirited environment. During their grand opening on Nov. 21, guests sampled menu favorites and celebrated the venue’s new chapter.

“Artmosphere wants to be a live music venue,” Marcela shared. “It wants to be the event bar… a place to stay and enjoy yourself.” Their menu reinforces that intention, offering hearty bar-style dishes such as chili dawgs, loaded tots, jalapeño spring rolls, meatball subs, and Justin’s grandmother’s treasured meatball recipe.

Justin calls it “bar food with a heart,” a phrase that reflects 1 Corinthians 16:14, “Do everything in love.” Their goal is not only to serve food and music but to serve people with love, kindness, and authenticity.

Honoring Tradition While Supporting the Future

While the couple considered renaming Artmosphere, they soon realized how much the community cherished the original name—and the memories it carried. They chose to honor its legacy while building something new upon it, much like Proverbs 24:3, “By wisdom a house is built, and through understanding it is established.”

As part of their mission to bless Acadiana, a portion of proceeds from Artmosphere T-shirts and specialty dishes will support KRVS, UL Lafayette’s public radio station known for uplifting Cajun and zydeco culture. Justin says Lafayette has embraced them, and they hope to give back by using Artmosphere to strengthen the cultural heartbeat of the region.

“This place makes me happy,” he said. “And I want to keep that energy going.”
