Building Strong Foundations: Taylor Center Releases 2026 Education Schedule
LAFAYETTE, La. — Lafayette Consolidated Government’s Community Development & Planning Department has announced the 2026 education schedule for the Jessie Livingston Taylor Center for Housing and Community Services, continuing its mission to strengthen neighborhoods and empower residents. Located at 111 Shirley Picard Drive, the Taylor Center remains a vital resource for families seeking stability, opportunity, and guidance. Scripture reminds us that “Unless the Lord builds the house, the builders labor in vain” (Psalm 127:1), underscoring the importance of building lives and homes on a firm foundation.
Equipping Families Through Education and Training
Throughout 2026, the Taylor Center will host monthly educational classes aimed at meeting practical needs while encouraging long-term success. These sessions include Home Ownership Training for prospective buyers, Financial Literacy Workshops focused on budgeting and credit management, and Home Maintenance Workshops that teach residents how to care for and improve their homes. Proverbs 24:3 teaches, “By wisdom a house is built, and through understanding it is established,” a truth reflected in the Center’s commitment to education.
Guiding First-Time Homeowners with Confidence
One of the cornerstone offerings of the Taylor Center is its Home Ownership Training, designed to help individuals and families confidently navigate the home-buying process. For many, purchasing a first home represents hope, stability, and answered prayers. Through these classes, participants gain the tools needed to make informed decisions and avoid common pitfalls. Luke 14:28 encourages careful planning, reminding us to count the cost before building—wisdom that applies both spiritually and practically.
Promoting Stewardship Through Financial Literacy
Financial Literacy Workshops will address budgeting, credit management, and strategies for long-term financial stability. These classes emphasize stewardship, a biblical principle found in Luke 16:10: “Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much.” By helping residents manage resources wisely, the Taylor Center is investing in futures that are sustainable and secure.
Supporting Safe and Sustainable Housing
Beyond education, the Jessie Livingston Taylor Center offers a wide range of housing programs through its Human Services Division. These include the Housing Demolition Program, Housing Rehabilitation Program, Sewer System Program, First-Time Home Buyer Program, Ramp Program, and Housing Counseling Services. Each initiative is designed to ensure that residents have access to safe, affordable, and dignified housing. Isaiah 32:18 speaks to this vision: “My people will live in peaceful dwelling places, in secure homes, in undisturbed places of rest.”
A Vision for a Stronger Community
Human Services Manager Belle Leblanc emphasized the Center’s mission, saying the focus is on empowering residents with knowledge and support to build a stronger future. By combining practical assistance with education, the Taylor Center continues to serve as a beacon of hope for Lafayette families seeking stability and growth. As Proverbs 11:14 reminds us, “For lack of guidance a nation falls, but victory is won through many advisers.”
A Prayer for Lafayette
Heavenly Father, we thank You for the Jessie Livingston Taylor Center and the servants who work faithfully to uplift our community. We pray for every family seeking safe and affordable housing, wisdom in financial decisions, and confidence in building a future. Bless the leaders, instructors, and participants in these programs. May homes built and restored through these efforts be places of peace, security, and love, reflecting Your grace throughout Lafayette. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
