Gathering Under the Oaks: Faith, Fellowship, and Provision at the Lafayette Farmers & Artisans Market
Each Saturday morning, the Lafayette Farmers & Artisans Market comes alive beneath the majestic oak trees of Moncus Park, a 100-acre expanse of historic agricultural land in the heart of the Hub City. Beginning January 31, 2026, and continuing weekly from 8:00 a.m. to noon throughout the year, farmers, artisans, and value-added producers gather to share fresh produce, handmade goods, and local flavors. This weekly rhythm reflects a timeless biblical principle: “The earth yields its harvest; God, our God, blesses us” (Psalm 67:6).
A Place Where Community and Creation Meet
Moncus Park offers more than a venue—it offers sacred ground where community and creation meet. Families stroll the paths, neighbors greet one another, and children learn where food truly comes from. The market serves as a reminder of God’s original design for stewardship and relationship. “The Lord God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it” (Genesis 2:15). Here, local growers and makers honor that calling by cultivating the land and sharing its fruit.
Supporting Local Hands and Honest Work
At the heart of the market are the farmers and artisans whose labor sustains Acadiana. Each loaf baked, vegetable harvested, and craft created represents dedication and faithfulness. Scripture affirms the dignity of such work: “The worker deserves his wages” (Luke 10:7). By shopping locally, families invest not only in fresh food and quality goods, but also in neighbors who pour their hearts into honest work.
A Family-Friendly Tradition Rooted in Togetherness
The Lafayette Farmers & Artisans Market is designed to be welcoming and family-friendly, offering a safe and joyful space for all ages. It echoes the spirit of early Christian community described in Acts 2:46, “They broke bread together with glad and sincere hearts.” Conversations flow easily, laughter fills the air, and friendships are strengthened—one Saturday at a time.
Staying Connected Through the Town Planner
Helping families stay connected to gatherings like the market is the Town Planner calendar, a free, year-round resource mailed to homes across the community. With local events, savings from area merchants, and beautiful photography, the calendar keeps families informed and engaged. In addition to print, the Town Planner’s website, weekly newsletter, and mobile app are updated daily—ensuring residents never miss opportunities to gather, celebrate, and support one another. “Let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds” (Hebrews 10:24).
A Weekly Invitation to Gratitude and Grace
Held at Moncus Park, located at 2913 Johnston Street in Lafayette, the market runs nearly every Saturday of 2026, rain or shine. Each gathering is an invitation to slow down, give thanks, and recognize God’s provision through land and people alike. “Give us today our daily bread” (Matthew 6:11) becomes tangible as baskets are filled and hearts are encouraged.
Prayer for Our Community
Heavenly Father,
We thank You for the land, the harvest, and the people who work faithfully to provide for our community. Bless the farmers, artisans, and families who gather each week at Moncus Park. May this market be a place of joy, connection, and gratitude. Teach us to steward Your creation wisely and to support one another with generous hearts. Let all that is shared here bring glory to You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
