A Story of Love, Sacrifice, and Hope Takes the Stage in Lafayette

An acclaimed Broadway musical celebrated for its message of love, perseverance, and redemption is coming to Acadiana. Winner of eight 2019 Tony Awards®, including Best Musical, the powerful production created by celebrated singer-songwriter Anaïs Mitchell and directed by Rachel Chavkin will take the stage at the Heymann Performing Arts Center in Lafayette on January 26, 2026, at 7:30 p.m. Though set within a modern artistic framework, the heart of the story speaks timeless truths that echo Scripture: “Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things” (1 Corinthians 13:7).

A Love Story for Today—and Always

Described as “a love story for today… and always,” the musical explores themes of devotion, sacrifice, trust, and the cost of hope. These are themes deeply familiar to the Christian faith, reminding believers that love is not passive but active and often requires courage. Jesus Himself taught, “Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends” (John 15:13). Through music and storytelling, the production invites audiences to reflect on what it truly means to love faithfully in a broken world.

Art That Reflects Eternal Truths

Anaïs Mitchell’s songwriting and Rachel Chavkin’s visionary direction combine to create a production that resonates across generations and backgrounds. While the musical is not explicitly faith-based, its core message aligns with biblical principles—hope in the midst of darkness, light overcoming despair, and the power of steadfast love. “The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it” (John 1:5). These truths come alive on stage, offering audiences both inspiration and reflection.

A Cultural Moment for Acadiana

The arrival of this Tony Award–winning musical at the Heymann Performing Arts Center marks a significant cultural moment for Lafayette and the surrounding region. Performances like this bring communities together, fostering shared experiences that uplift and challenge the heart. The arts, when grounded in meaningful storytelling, can become instruments of grace and understanding. As Psalm 96:1 declares, “Sing to the Lord a new song; sing to the Lord, all the earth.” Music and performance have long been vehicles through which God stirs emotion and truth.

An Invitation to Reflect and Renew

As audiences gather on January 26, 2026, they are invited not only to enjoy an evening of exceptional theater but also to consider the deeper messages woven into the story. In a world often marked by division and uncertainty, stories that highlight enduring love and hope remind us of God’s unchanging character. “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever” (Hebrews 13:8). Such reminders are especially meaningful in times when hearts are searching for reassurance and purpose.

Prayer for the Community and the Arts

Heavenly Father,
We thank You for the gift of creativity and for artists who tell stories that stir the soul and point us toward hope. Bless all who attend this performance and those who bring it to life. May the messages of love, sacrifice, and perseverance inspire hearts and strengthen our community. We pray for unity, joy, and renewed faith through shared experiences. May all that we do bring honor to You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
