GUEYDAN, La. — The town of Gueydan, affectionately known as the “Duck Capital of America,” is preparing to welcome thousands of visitors as the 50th Annual Gueydan Duck Festival returns August 27–30, 2026. For half a century, the beloved festival has celebrated the rich traditions of Acadiana through music, food, agriculture, outdoor heritage, and family fellowship while bringing together generations of residents and visitors in a spirit of community.
Festival organizers say what began in 1977 has grown into one of Louisiana’s treasured annual traditions, honoring the culture and values that have shaped Vermilion Parish for decades. This year’s golden anniversary promises four days filled with entertainment, competitions, parades, and activities that reflect the unique character of South Louisiana.
Honoring a Heritage Passed Down Through Generations
The festival offers something for every age, including live music each evening, the annual Grand Parade through downtown Gueydan, skeet shooting competitions, indoor and outdoor cooking contests, carnival rides, and Senior Queen Pageants. Visitors will also enjoy pre-festival events such as the Wine and Cheese Reception, Junior Duck Festival Pageant, Duck Calling Contest, and Dog Trials, all highlighting skills and traditions that have been passed from one generation to the next.
Festival President Todd Scott shared that the celebration is about much more than entertainment. It is an opportunity to honor the people, customs, and outdoor heritage that make Louisiana unique while welcoming new generations into those cherished traditions.
This enduring legacy reflects the biblical wisdom of Psalm 145:4, which declares, “One generation shall commend your works to another and shall declare your mighty acts.” Just as faith is passed from parents to children, communities are strengthened when traditions rooted in gratitude, hard work, and fellowship are preserved.
Celebrating Community Through Fellowship
Throughout the four-day event, families and friends will gather to enjoy performances from regional and nationally recognized artists, including Tracy Byrd, Wayne Toups & ZydeCajun, Geno Delafose & French Rockin’ Boogie, Gyth Rigdon, and many other talented musicians. The music, Cajun cuisine, and welcoming atmosphere reflect the hospitality that has long defined Acadiana.
Beyond the entertainment, the festival provides an important economic boost for local businesses while showcasing the warmth and generosity of the Gueydan community. Restaurants, shops, and local vendors all benefit as visitors experience the area’s unique culture and hospitality.
