Chris Domingue Named New Scott Fire Chief, Continuing a Legacy of Service

A New Chapter for the Scott Fire Department

SCOTT, La. — The Scott Fire Department has welcomed a new leader as Chris Domingue takes on the role of fire chief, beginning a new chapter of service for the department and the community. Domingue succeeds former Fire Chief Chad Sonnier, who recently accepted the position of Louisiana State Fire Marshal.

The transition represents more than a change in leadership. It is an opportunity to recognize the importance of faithful service and responsible leadership in protecting a community. Scripture teaches in Mark 10:45 that the Son of Man came not to be served, but to serve. That principle of servant leadership is particularly meaningful for those who willingly place themselves in harm’s way to protect others.

Honoring a Legacy

The Scott Fire Department expressed pride in Sonnier’s new position and the legacy and accomplishments he leaves behind. His transition to state fire marshal represents another opportunity to serve Louisiana and advance public safety beyond the local community.

Leadership changes can bring uncertainty, but they can also demonstrate how one generation of leaders prepares the way for another. Proverbs 11:14 reminds us of the value of wise counsel and leadership. Strong organizations are often built through the knowledge, training, and example passed from one leader to the next.

A Lifetime in the Fire Service

For Domingue, becoming fire chief is the culmination of a lifetime devoted to the fire service. His career began as a volunteer firefighter before he applied to and was hired by the Lafayette Fire Department. What began as volunteer service eventually became a 36-year professional career with the City of Lafayette.

Throughout those years, Domingue advanced through numerous positions, including firefighter, firefighter first class, fire engineer, captain, district fire chief, assistant fire chief, and deputy fire chief.

His journey illustrates the biblical principle found in Luke 16:10: faithfulness in small responsibilities can prepare a person for greater responsibilities. Years of experience, training, and leadership helped prepare Domingue for his new assignment in Scott.

Preparation for a Dangerous Calling

Domingue’s extensive education and professional certifications reflect the preparation required of modern firefighters. His training includes Firefighter I and II, Instructor I, Officer I, hazardous materials awareness, operations and technician certifications, vehicle extrication, emergency medical responder training, and medical first responder training.

He also attended the University of Louisiana at Lafayette and graduated summa cum laude from Louisiana State University at Eunice with a degree in fire science.

Such preparation is important because firefighters regularly face situations involving danger, uncertainty, injury, and loss. Proverbs 22:3 teaches that a wise person recognizes danger and prepares accordingly.

Continuing to Serve After Retirement

Domingue’s commitment to his community did not end when he retired from Lafayette after 36 years. He continued serving through the Scott Fire Department Board of Directors and was later appointed Scott deputy fire chief by Sonnier.

Now, as chief, Domingue assumes an even greater responsibility to lead firefighters and help protect the people of Scott.

For Christians, his story offers a reminder that a life of service can continue through many seasons. Galatians 6:9 encourages believers not to grow weary in doing good, because faithful service can produce lasting fruit.

A Prayer for Scott and Its First Responders

Heavenly Father, we thank You for those who dedicate their lives to protecting others. We pray for Chief Chris Domingue, the Scott Fire Department, and every firefighter and first responder who serves the community. Give them wisdom when difficult decisions must be made, courage when danger comes, strength when they are weary, and compassion for those they encounter. Protect them and their families, and guide their leadership. We also thank You for Chief Chad Sonnier and ask You to bless him in his new role serving the people of Louisiana. May the Scott community remain united in supporting those who serve, and may every firefighter be reminded that their work has meaning and purpose. As Colossians 3:23 teaches, may they carry out their responsibilities wholeheartedly, as unto the Lord. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
