A Season of Growth and Community Engagement
LAFAYETTE, La. — Moncus Park is preparing for its biggest fall season since opening, offering nearly 90 free public events designed to bring people together through fitness, education, culture, and community fellowship. From September through November, residents and visitors will have opportunities nearly every day of the week to connect with neighbors, enjoy the outdoors, and celebrate the unique culture of Acadiana.
Park leaders say the expanded schedule comes in response to growing attendance and increasing community involvement. Executive Director JP MacFadyen expressed gratitude for the continued support shown by the community and emphasized the park’s commitment to serving the people of Lafayette and beyond.
From a Christian perspective, spaces that encourage fellowship and community reflect God’s design for people to gather, encourage one another, and build meaningful relationships. Hebrews 10:24-25 reminds believers to “consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together.” Moncus Park continues to provide a place where those connections can flourish.
Promoting Health and Wellness for All Ages
One of the highlights of the fall season is the return of the popular Fit For All series, featuring its largest schedule ever. Activities include weekly Yoga in the Park sessions, Tai Chi classes, Pilates, Zumba, and fitness programs led by local instructors.
Families with young children will also benefit from programs such as Mom Walks and Mommy & Me gatherings, which provide opportunities for parents and caregivers to stay active while building friendships with others in similar stages of life.
Physical health is a gift from God, and Scripture encourages believers to care for their bodies wisely. In 1 Corinthians 6:19-20, Christians are reminded that their bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit. Programs that promote wellness can help strengthen individuals physically while fostering emotional and social well-being.
Celebrating God’s Creation Through Environmental Education
This fall’s environmental programming is the most extensive in the park’s history. Visitors can participate in nature walks, bird surveys, conservation clubs, prairie seed collections, trail treks, and educational presentations focused on local ecosystems.
Additional cultural demonstrations, including accordion building and traditional basket weaving, will highlight the rich heritage of South Louisiana while connecting attendees to generations of craftsmanship and creativity.
Psalm 19:1 declares, “The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of His hands.” Through these environmental programs, participants can gain a deeper appreciation for the beauty and diversity of God’s creation while learning the importance of stewardship and conservation.
Building Relationships Through Shared Experiences
Community Hour programming will continue throughout the season with family game nights, trivia competitions, language cafés, crochet workshops, and seasonal celebrations. These events encourage people from diverse backgrounds to gather, learn from one another, and strengthen community bonds.
Food Truck Friday returns this fall, offering local cuisine, outdoor seating, and family-friendly activities. Meanwhile, Movies at Moncus will once again bring families together under the stars with free film screenings and community fundraising opportunities that support the park’s mission.
These gatherings reflect the spirit of Acts 2:46, where believers shared meals, fellowship, and joyful community life together.
Looking Ahead to the Holidays
As autumn transitions into winter, Moncus Park will continue its tradition of hosting beloved holiday events, including Christmas in the Park and Teddy Bear Tea. New additions such as The Champions Course 5K and the 2026 USATF National Junior Olympic Cross Country Championships will further establish the park as a destination for recreation and community engagement.
For many families, Moncus Park has become more than a recreational space—it has become a place where memories are made, friendships are formed, and community thrives.
Prayer for the Community
Heavenly Father, thank You for places like Moncus Park that bring people together in fellowship, learning, and recreation. Bless the staff, volunteers, and community members who make these events possible. May every family, child, and visitor who walks these trails and gathers in these spaces experience joy, connection, and peace. Help our community grow stronger through kindness, unity, and service to one another. We pray that this season will be filled with opportunities to celebrate Your creation and build relationships that honor You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
