St. Amant Library and Community Center Construction Signals New Beginnings

Eight years after devastating floods swept through southern Louisiana, the St. Amant community is finally seeing the light of renewal as construction begins on a new library and community center. The floods of 2016, which caused the Amite River to swell to nearly 17.5 feet, left the area’s community center in ruins. Since then, residents have longed for a place to gather, learn, and rebuild their sense of community.

A New Hub of Learning and Togetherness

The construction of the new facility, positioned along La. 431 between Cannon and Bayou Narcisse roads, is well underway, with crews currently laying the foundation. The project will bring to life a 16,500-square-foot library, an 11,000-square-foot community center, and a 7,000-square-foot outdoor area. This initiative is a collaborative effort between the Ascension Parish government and the Ascension Parish Library, reflecting the spirit of unity and cooperation that has guided the community through its darkest days.

The Bible reminds us in Isaiah 58:12, “Your people will rebuild the ancient ruins and will raise up the age-old foundations; you will be called Repairer of Broken Walls, Restorer of Streets with Dwellings.” The rebuilding of St. Amant’s community center and the addition of the new library stand as a testament to the community’s resilience and determination to rise from the ruins stronger than before.

A Symbol of Hope for the Future

For the residents of St. Amant, this project represents more than just bricks and mortar; it is a symbol of hope, growth, and the unwavering spirit of the community. As the Donaldsonville branch prepares to reopen, these developments mark a significant milestone in the region’s ongoing recovery and rejuvenation.

A Prayer for Renewal and Strength

Heavenly Father, we thank You for the progress being made in St. Amant and the surrounding communities. We ask for Your continued blessing on this construction project, that it may be completed safely and become a beacon of hope and renewal for all who enter. May this library and community center serve as a place of learning, fellowship, and growth for generations to come. We pray for the strength and unity of the St. Amant community as they rebuild and look toward a brighter future. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.
