A Long-Awaited Milestone
Lafayette Consolidated Government (LCG) has achieved a significant milestone in the Bayou Vermilion Flood Control project. The parish has received an initial $6.1 million reimbursement from the State of Louisiana for work completed in 2022 on the Homewood Detention Ponds and Coulee Ile De Cannes detention ponds. This reimbursement was previously withheld due to permitting issues.
Overcoming Challenges
The Boulet administration has worked tirelessly to address the permitting and financial challenges associated with the project. By submitting after-the-fact permit applications to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), LCG is taking steps to ensure the completion of these critical flood control measures.
A Hopeful Future
Securing the remaining $21 million in reimbursements is essential to the financial health of Lafayette Parish and the successful completion of the project. The ultimate goal is to connect the detention ponds to the Vermilion River, providing much-needed flood protection for the community.
