Civic Curiosity Comes Alive at Children’s Museum of Acadiana

Little Leaders Rise in Lafayette
On Wednesday, July 23, 2025, the Children’s Museum of Acadiana (CMA) will open its doors early for a special event designed to plant the seeds of leadership in young hearts. The “Meet the Mayor” event will feature Mayor-President Monique Blanco-Boulet as part of the museum’s Little Leaders initiative. Children will participate in a mock city council meeting, take a Little Leader’s Oath, and vote on future museum exhibits—experiencing firsthand how civic decisions shape their community.

A Faith-Inspired Model of Leadership
The Bible reminds us in 1 Timothy 4:12, “Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers…” CMA Executive Director Lore Linton echoed this truth, saying, “Children are more capable than we often realize.” This event demonstrates a belief that even the youngest among us can lead with purpose, creativity, and faith.

Empowering Through Engagement
Program Manager Rachael Gary emphasized that when children feel heard, their sense of agency grows. “This event gives them a voice,” she said. The experience will also include a Q&A with the mayor-president and photo opportunities, bringing city leadership down to a child’s level and making it tangible. Proverbs 22:6 encourages us to “Train up a child in the way he should go,” and CMA is doing just that—empowering youth to become thoughtful, active citizens.
