St. Martin Parish Courtroom Dedicated to Late Prosecutor Shentell Brown

ST. MARTIN PARISH — Honoring a Life of Service
The St. Martin Parish Council has passed a resolution to honor the memory of former Assistant District Attorney Shentell Brown, whose life was tragically cut short earlier this year. Courtroom 2 of the St. Martin Parish Courthouse, primarily used for juvenile cases, will now bear her name — a fitting tribute to her tireless advocacy for children and families. “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called children of God” (Matthew 5:9).

A Legacy of Justice and Compassion
Judges of the 16th Judicial District Court submitted the request, noting that Brown’s work in juvenile justice left a lasting mark on the community. Chief Judge Roger Hamilton praised her legacy, stating that Brown was known for her empathy, kindness, and dedication to fairness. From serving as a public defender representing parents to prosecuting juvenile and support cases as an ADA, Brown consistently sought to protect the vulnerable and guide young people toward brighter futures.

Her efforts included advancing child welfare programs like the Youth Mobile Crisis Response team and the Kinship Navigator program, initiatives she was eager to expand just days before her death. “Defend the weak and the fatherless; uphold the cause of the poor and the oppressed” (Psalm 82:3).

Remembering Shentell Brown
Colleagues describe Brown as a caring boss, colleague, and advocate who deeply loved her community. Her absence, even months later, is still felt in the courthouse halls and across St. Martin Parish. Brown is survived by her parents, five children, and extended family.

A formal dedication ceremony will be held soon to enshrine her name and legacy within the courtroom she so passionately served.
