Downtown Alive Supports UL Lafayette’s Career Closet Program

LAFAYETTE, La. — The Ragin’ Cajuns Downtown Alive event kicked off tonight, combining music, community, and service by collecting professional clothing donations for UL Lafayette’s Career Closet. This initiative helps students prepare for interviews and career opportunities by providing essential attire.

Serving Students Through Generosity

In partnership with Downtown Lafayette Unlimited, the event collects suits, jackets, dresses, shoes, ties, and other professional clothing. Kim Billeaudeau, Director of Career Services at UL Lafayette, emphasized the impact: “We are taking any kind of professional clothing… to help students look their best for interviews and career opportunities.” Acts 20:35 reminds us, “It is more blessed to give than to receive.” By supporting students through donations, the community exemplifies Christlike generosity.

Empowering Students for Success

The Career Closet provides more than clothing; students also receive resume preparation and mock interview services to equip them for future careers. Proverbs 22:6 teaches, “Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old they will not turn from it.” By empowering young adults with tools for professional success, the community is nurturing responsible, prepared, and faithful leaders for tomorrow.

Faith in Action Through Community Partnership

Downtown Alive offers an evening of entertainment, fellowship, and service, demonstrating how community events can blend fun with meaningful impact. The Career Closet drive encourages neighbors to support students and invest in their futures. Philippians 2:4 calls us to “look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others,” a principle embodied in this local initiative.

A Prayer for Students and Community Supporters

Heavenly Father, we thank You for the generosity of the Lafayette community and the UL Lafayette Career Closet program. Bless the students who will benefit from these donations and services. May this partnership inspire others to serve with love, equip future leaders, and honor You in all acts of giving. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
