Meditation Offers Relief for Migraine Sufferers

“You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in you.” – Isaiah 26:3

A new study from the Wake Forest School of Medicine reveals that mindfulness meditation may provide significant relief for those who struggle with recurring migraines. In the study, 19 patients diagnosed with episodic migraines participated, with 10 practicing meditation over an eight-week period while the remaining nine received standard migraine care.

Peace of Mind and Body

The results were striking: those in the meditation group reported an average of 1.4 fewer migraines per month, and when migraines did occur, they lasted nearly three hours less compared to those experienced by the control group. Pain levels were also noticeably reduced, suggesting that calming the mind and focusing on God’s gift of peace can have tangible effects on physical suffering. “A heart at peace gives life to the body.” (Proverbs 14:30)

A Biblical Approach to Wholeness

While science continues to explore the benefits of meditation, believers can recognize the connection between quiet reflection, prayer, and healing. Christian meditation—fixing our thoughts on Scripture, God’s promises, and His presence—aligns with biblical instruction: “But his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night.” (Psalm 1:2). As our culture grows busier and stress-related illnesses increase, such practices remind us of God’s invitation to “Be still, and know that I am God” (Psalm 46:10).

Prayer for Healing and Peace

Gracious Father,
We lift up those who suffer from migraines and chronic pain. Bring them comfort and healing, Lord, and let them experience Your peace that surpasses all understanding. May practices of prayer and meditation on Your Word bring rest to weary minds and bodies. Bless the researchers and caregivers seeking better ways to ease suffering and remind us always to rest in Your presence. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
