Food Bank of Northwest Louisiana Receives 40,000-lb. Donation

A Gift of Compassion in a Time of Need
CADDO PARISH, La. — The Food Bank of Northwest Louisiana received a blessing this week in the form of a 40,000-pound food donation from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Valued at $70,000, the shipment of canned and dry goods will help feed thousands of people across the region.

Executive Director Martha Marak said the timing could not be better. “With the changes to the SNAP Program, some folks are already starting to see their benefits cut. They turn to us to make ends meet,” Marak explained. “We lost funding earlier this year, and at the same time, we are seeing more of our neighbors come to us for help. This donation really does make a difference.”

Caring for the Most Vulnerable
The Food Bank serves roughly 65,000 people each year, including many seniors struggling to afford food and medications on fixed incomes. “A lot of our seniors have worked their whole life, but their Social Security just isn’t enough to live on,” Marak said. “Grocery prices continue to rise. Their dollar doesn’t go as far as it used to.”

The donation, she added, will help the Food Bank meet those needs for both long-term clients and new families seeking assistance.

Faith in Action
Scripture reminds us of the calling to serve one another: “Do not neglect to do good and to share what you have, for such sacrifices are pleasing to God” (Hebrews 13:16). The partnership between the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and the Food Bank is an example of faith put into action, ensuring no neighbor is forgotten.
