For over 50 years, the Louisiana Gumbo Festival in Chackbay has marked the official start of gumbo season. From October through March, families across Acadiana gather around steaming pots, stirring roux with the same wooden spoons their grandparents used. Sunday dinners, Mardi Gras gatherings, and even snowy winter days bring families together through this iconic dish. Gumbo becomes more than a meal—it’s a ministry of love served in a bowl.
