Faith, Family, and Festivals: Louisiana Cotton Festival Celebrates Community and Tradition
A Legacy of Faith and Fellowship
VILLE PLATTE, La. — The 71st Annual Louisiana Cotton Festival kicked off this week, weaving together tradition, family, and faith in a celebration that honors both Louisiana’s agricultural roots and the spirit of community. The festivities began on Monday, October 6, at the Ville Platte Civic Center with the 4-H Cotton Food Fest, Cotton Pickin’ Pet Show, and Pumpkin Decorating Contest, uniting families from across Evangeline Parish. Events like these remind us of the power of gathering in joy and thanksgiving, echoing the words of Scripture: “Behold, how good and pleasant it is when God’s people live together in unity” (Psalm 133:1).
Celebrating God’s Blessings Through Community
Children and families filled the Civic Center with laughter, creativity, and friendly competition. In the Medium/Large Best Costumed Pair division of the pet show, Reid Estilette of Pine Prairie took first place with his dog, Quinn, while Hudson Manuel of Sacred Heart earned second with Ozzy. The Cotton Festival continues throughout the week, featuring carnival rides, local food, and live entertainment, including a Friday night street dance with DJ Marshal Vidrine and performances by Raylon Blake and Flat Town Zydeco. Each moment reflects gratitude for the harvest season and the blessings of shared fellowship, just as James 1:17 reminds us, “Every good and perfect gift is from above.”
Faith Woven into Every Celebration
The Louisiana Cotton Festival is more than just an event — it’s a reflection of God’s provision and the enduring faith of the people of Ville Platte. From the laughter of children to the rhythms of Zydeco music, the community celebrates not only its culture but the Creator who sustains it all.
A Prayer for the Community
Heavenly Father, we thank You for the joy, unity, and blessings found in this year’s Cotton Festival. May You continue to bless the families, farmers, and leaders who make this celebration possible. Let this season of gratitude draw our hearts closer to You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
