“God With Skin On: The Nearness of Jesus”

When Heaven Touched Earth
“The Word became human and made His home among us. He was full of unfailing love and faithfulness.” — John 1:14 (NLT)
A little boy once called out during a thunderstorm, “Daddy, I’m scared!” His father reassured him, “Don’t worry, God loves you.” After a pause, the boy whispered, “I know God loves me, but right now, I need somebody with skin on.” That simple statement captures the essence of the incarnation. In Jesus Christ, God put on flesh—He became tangible, touchable, and relatable. He came close so we could understand His heart.

God Became Man So We Could Know His Love
In a world where God can seem distant or abstract, Jesus came to show us what divine love looks like in human form. As C. S. Lewis once wrote, “The Son of God became a man to enable men to become sons of God.” Jesus didn’t just come to teach; He came to rescue. He wept with the brokenhearted, healed the sick, and embraced the outcasts. Through Him, we see that God is not far away—He is Emmanuel, God with us (Matthew 1:23).

The Invitation to Know Him Personally
We aren’t born as children of God by default; we become His children through faith in Jesus Christ (John 1:12). The same God who once walked among us now offers His Spirit to live within us. Salvation isn’t about religion—it’s about relationship. The question remains: have you invited Jesus to make His home in your heart?

A Prayer for Intimacy with God
Lord Jesus, thank You for becoming “God with skin on,” for walking among us and showing us the Father’s love. Help us to draw close to You—not just to know about You, but to truly know You. Let Your presence calm our fears and fill our hearts. In Your name we pray, Amen.
