Plaquemine Green Devils Aim for Glory as Faith Guides Their Championship Quest

A Team United in Purpose and Prayer

PLAQUEMINE, La. — The Plaquemine Green Devils are charging toward history, seeking their first trip to the Caesars Superdome and a Division II Non-Select State Championship. This Friday at 7 p.m., PHS will host the formidable Cecilia Bulldogs in quarterfinal action at Andrew Canova Green Devil Stadium. Both teams bring powerful offenses and strong seasons, promising a thrilling matchup for fans and families alike.

As the Green Devils prepare for this pivotal game, they reflect the truth of Philippians 4:13: “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” Every practice, every play, and every moment on the field is guided by faith, perseverance, and the desire to honor God in victory and defeat.

Plaquemine’s Road to the Quarterfinals

Plaquemine (11-1) enters the contest riding high after a dominating 50-14 win over Wossman in the second round. The Green Devils have gone unbeaten since a Week 1 setback against Class 5A Zachary, demonstrating resilience and determination. Senior leaders on the team embody 1 Corinthians 16:13: “Be on your guard; stand firm in the faith; be courageous; be strong.” Their discipline and unity reflect the biblical principles of teamwork, integrity, and service to one another.

Cecilia Bulldogs: A Formidable Opponent

Cecilia (7-4) arrives in Plaquemine with momentum, including a 54-42 victory over Lakeshore in regional play. Led by senior quarterback Collin Dore and wide receiver Blake Huval, alongside upperclassmen Jaydon Frederick and running back Jermaine Davis Jr., the Bulldogs boast a high-powered offense capable of challenging the Green Devils’ defense. Despite early losses to Central and Notre Dame-Crowley, Cecilia has strung together six consecutive victories, demonstrating resilience reminiscent of James 1:12: “Blessed is the one who perseveres under trial because, having stood the test, that person will receive the crown of life that the Lord has promised to those who love him.”

A Clash of Faith and Skill

Both teams have demonstrated the ability to pile points on the board, promising a fast-paced and electrifying showdown. Plaquemine’s senior leaders not only guide their teammates on the field but also encourage one another spiritually, ensuring that competition remains rooted in respect, honor, and humility before God. Colossians 3:23 reminds athletes and fans alike: “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters.”

Looking Toward the Superdome and Beyond

Victory Friday night would send Plaquemine to the state semifinals, closer than ever to a first-ever championship. Beyond wins and statistics, the Green Devils’ journey reflects the power of faith, hard work, and community support. Families, coaches, and teammates all unite, lifting one another in prayer and encouragement, demonstrating that true victory is measured not only by trophies but by character, perseverance, and the impact of Christlike leadership.

A Prayer for the Teams and Community

Heavenly Father, we lift up the Plaquemine Green Devils, the Cecilia Bulldogs, and all who participate in this quarterfinal matchup. Grant the players strength, focus, and safety on the field. May their efforts honor You, reflect Your love, and demonstrate teamwork and perseverance. Bless their families, coaches, and community, and remind all of us that every victory and challenge is an opportunity to glorify You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
