“BRING YOUR FLOWERS NOW”: A REMINDER TO HONOR OTHERS WHILE WE CAN

LAFAYETTE, La. — A timeless biblical lesson from Matthew 26:13 is encouraging believers across Acadiana to express love, gratitude, and honor to others while there is still time. Scripture declares, “She will always be remembered… wherever the Good News is preached, what she has done will also be told as a memorial to her.”

Faith leaders say this message is a powerful reminder not to wait until it is too late to appreciate the people who have impacted our lives.

A SACRIFICE OF LOVE THAT STILL SPEAKS TODAY

In the Gospel story, Mary of Bethany poured expensive perfume on Jesus as an act of worship and devotion. While others criticized her action as wasteful, Jesus praised her heartfelt sacrifice, recognizing it as a beautiful expression of love before His crucifixion.

Pastors say Mary’s act demonstrates a truth still relevant today: love expressed sincerely for God and others is never wasted.

John 12:3 records that the fragrance filled the house, symbolizing how acts of love can leave a lasting impact far beyond the moment.

A MESSAGE FOR TODAY: DON’T WAIT TO SHOW APPRECIATION

Inspired by this scripture, believers are being encouraged to “bring your flowers now”—a phrase reminding people to honor loved ones, mentors, and spiritual leaders while they are still living.

Many Christians say it is easy to assume there will always be another opportunity to say thank you, show appreciation, or express love. However, faith leaders warn that time is not guaranteed, and words left unspoken can become lasting regrets.

Ecclesiastes 3:1 teaches, “To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven.” Ministers say that includes a season to speak encouragement, gratitude, and blessing into the lives of others.

FAITH, GRATITUDE, AND LIVING WITH INTENTION

Church leaders across the region say this message challenges believers to live more intentionally, recognizing the value of those around them. Whether through a simple word of encouragement, a note of thanks, or an act of kindness, small expressions of love can carry eternal significance.

Jesus’ response to Mary reminds believers that God sees the heart behind every action. When love is offered sincerely, it reflects the character of Christ and strengthens the bonds of faith within the community.

Prayer for the Community

Heavenly Father, teach us to love others well and to express gratitude while we have the opportunity. Help us not to delay words of encouragement or acts of kindness. Open our eyes to see the value in those around us and give us hearts that honor You through how we treat others. May our communities be filled with appreciation, love, and unity. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
