A New Chapter for Mental Health Care in Acadiana
Community leaders, healthcare professionals, and residents gathered in Lafayette on Wednesday to celebrate the ribbon-cutting of the new Ochsner Behavioral Health Acadiana facility, a significant step forward in expanding mental health services throughout the region. The new 62-bed behavioral health center, located on Youngsville Highway, is expected to provide critical inpatient and outpatient care for individuals and families across Acadiana.
The facility represents more than just a new building—it symbolizes hope, healing, and a renewed commitment to caring for those facing emotional, psychological, and behavioral health challenges. The center is scheduled to begin accepting patients on July 7 and will serve individuals of all ages, including children and adolescents.
Meeting a Growing Need in the Community
Mental health concerns continue to impact families from every background. Healthcare leaders say the expansion comes at a time when communities are recognizing the importance of addressing emotional and mental wellness with the same urgency as physical health.
“As we all know, mental health touches everyone, regardless of who you are and where you sit in the community,” said Stuart Archer, CEO of Oceans Healthcare. “We all know someone or we’ve had a loved one who’s had a mental health issue.”
The new facility builds upon existing services already available in Lafayette and strengthens the partnership between Oceans Healthcare and Ochsner Health. Leaders say the addition of more inpatient beds and specialized services for children and adolescents will help meet a longstanding need throughout the region.
