New Chapter Begins for Coach Montrelle Taylor as He Takes Leadership Role at Acadiana High

LAFAYETTE, La. — In a season of transition for student-athletes and coaches affected by the closing of Comeaux High School, one respected leader has found a new opportunity to continue shaping young lives both on and off the basketball court. Montrelle Taylor, former athletic director and boys basketball coach at Comeaux High, has been named the new head boys basketball coach at Acadiana High School.

After six years of service with the Spartans, Taylor now steps into a leadership position with the Rams, bringing with him a reputation for hard work, discipline, and dedication to student development. While the closure of Comeaux High has created uncertainty for many families, Taylor’s appointment offers hope and stability during a time of change.

Faithful Leadership Through Times of Transition

For many in the Comeaux community, the school’s closing has been emotional. Coaches, athletes, and families have been forced to seek new beginnings and adjust to unfamiliar circumstances. Yet Scripture reminds believers that God often works through seasons of transition.

Proverbs 3:5-6 teaches, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight.”

Taylor’s journey reflects that truth. A graduate of Lafayette High School and a member of the Lions’ 2008 state championship team, he has steadily built a coaching career marked by perseverance and commitment. His experience at Centerville and Comeaux has helped prepare him for this next chapter at one of Lafayette Parish’s most recognized athletic programs.

A Deep Connection to Acadiana High

Taylor expressed gratitude and excitement about returning to a school deeply connected to his family’s history. Several members of his family graduated from Acadiana High, making the opportunity especially meaningful.

The coach described Acadiana as a program with tremendous potential and a tradition of excellence. While many know the Rams for their success on the football field, Taylor believes the basketball program can continue to grow and compete at a high level.

His vision is rooted in building character as much as athletic success. Throughout his coaching career, Taylor has emphasized accountability, discipline, and effort—qualities that align with biblical principles of stewardship and perseverance.

Colossians 3:23 encourages believers, “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord.”

Building a Culture of Hard Work

When asked what fans and players can expect from his teams, Taylor’s answer was immediate: hard work.

His teams have earned playoff appearances four times during his coaching career, despite often facing opponents with greater athletic advantages. Rather than relying solely on talent, Taylor has focused on fundamentals, determination, and teamwork.

That philosophy mirrors the teaching found in Galatians 6:9: “Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.”

With access to a larger pool of athletes and strong feeder programs at Acadiana High, Taylor believes the future is bright. He hopes to develop student-athletes who not only succeed in competition but also grow into responsible leaders within their schools and communities.

A Community Looking Ahead

As former Comeaux students find new homes across Lafayette Parish, many are carrying memories, friendships, and lessons learned from their time as Spartans. For Coach Taylor, the move to Acadiana High represents more than a new job—it is an opportunity to continue mentoring young people and investing in the next generation.

Community members are hopeful that his leadership will strengthen the Rams program while serving as a positive example of resilience, faith, and perseverance during a time of significant change.

Prayer for the Community

Heavenly Father, we lift up the students, families, coaches, and staff affected by the closing of Comeaux High School. Grant them peace as they navigate this season of transition and uncertainty. We pray for Coach Montrelle Taylor as he begins his new role at Acadiana High School. Give him wisdom, strength, and favor as he leads young athletes. Bless every student seeking a new path forward, and help them find encouragement, friendship, and success in their new environments. May this transition become an opportunity for growth, unity, and renewed purpose. Let Your guidance be evident in every decision and every step ahead. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
