ST. MARTINVILLE, La. — A new season of leadership is unfolding in the heart of St. Martinville as Michelle Broussard steps into the role of Director of Culture, Recreation, and Tourism. As longtime city leader Danielle Fontenot prepares to retire after nearly three decades of dedicated service, Broussard is embracing the opportunity to help guide the city into the future while honoring its rich past.

For many residents, St. Martinville is more than a historic destination—it is a place filled with faith, family, and heritage. Broussard believes preserving those values while encouraging growth will be essential to the city’s success. Her vision centers on revitalizing abandoned buildings, attracting new businesses, and creating opportunities that encourage residents and visitors alike to invest in the community.

The Bible reminds us in Jeremiah 29:7 to “seek the peace and prosperity of the city.” Broussard’s efforts reflect that principle as she works to strengthen the local economy and improve quality of life for future generations.

Reviving Main Street and Supporting Local Business

One of Broussard’s primary goals is bringing life back to vacant buildings along Main Street. Working alongside the parish tourism board and the Louisiana Governor’s Office, she is helping develop a strategy to attract entrepreneurs and showcase the unique opportunities available in St. Martinville.

Her vision is already beginning to take shape. New businesses are choosing historic properties rather than modern locations, recognizing the charm and character that make St. Martinville unique. Among them is Lucky Rack, an antique store opened by Vinnie Bourgeois in a historic Main Street building.

The decision reflects a growing appreciation for the city’s architectural heritage and demonstrates how preserving the past can help create economic opportunities today. In many ways, restoring and utilizing historic buildings honors that biblical principle.

Broussard’s responsibilities extend beyond tourism. She now oversees both the city’s historical district and Main Street programs, giving her a broad perspective on how St. Martinville presents itself to residents and visitors.

As Fontenot completes her final months in office, Broussard has expressed appreciation for the strong foundation already in place.
