Buc-ee’s Announces Opening Date for Lafayette Location Following Initial Approvals

Buc-ee’s, the beloved Texas-based convenience store chain, is set to bring its unique charm to Lafayette by late next year. The Lafayette Board of Zoning Adjustment has granted unanimous approval for eight variances related to parking lot landscaping, parking spaces, architectural requirements, and sign regulations, paving the way for the store’s construction.

Strategic Location and Impressive Size

The new Buc-ee’s will be located at the northeast corner of Louisiana Avenue and Interstate 10, featuring a sprawling 74,000-square-foot building with numerous gas pumps and nearly 700 parking spaces. This location aims to capture the traffic flow along I-10, drawing travelers into Lafayette. Proverbs 16:3 reminds us, “Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and he will establish your plans.”

Community and Economic Impact

Scott Ratcliff, Buc-ee’s Director of Engineering, expressed confidence in the collaborative efforts with city officials and the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development on a traffic study. Additionally, the Corps of Engineers is working to renew an environmental permit for the site. “Lafayette is a great community,” Ratcliff stated, emphasizing the store’s potential to enhance local commerce and job creation.

Mandi Mitchell, CEO of the Lafayette Economic Development Authority, highlighted the economic benefits, anticipating over 150 jobs and significant boosts in retail sales and property taxes. Construction and Future Plans

The construction, expected to take about 13 months, aims for completion before the 2025 holiday season. Buc-ee’s has requested variances to maintain brand consistency, including a 125-foot-high sign visible from I-10, far exceeding the typical 30-foot limit. The zoning committee, led by Chair Garland Pennison, approved these requests after ensuring they met the site’s specific needs.
