Heart Disease Detected Early with Breath Testing

A recent study published in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology has revealed a promising tool for the early detection of heart disease. Researchers tested 31 patients with pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) alongside 34 healthy control subjects and discovered that breath testing can identify heart and artery problems quickly and efficiently.

Volatile Gases Reveal Heart Health

The study focused on the concentrations of volatile gases such as propanol, ethanol, and ammonia in exhaled breath. Results showed significant differences between heart disease patients and healthy individuals, indicating that the breath itself can reflect the condition of the heart. Impressively, the analysis can be completed in under 30 minutes, providing a fast, noninvasive method for early diagnosis and potentially life-saving intervention.
