“So God created mankind in his own image… male and female he created them.” – Genesis 1:27
A new study published in the British Journal of Nutrition is shining light on how God’s provision in nature may help protect women’s health. Researchers in Guangdong, China, followed 1,122 women over five years—half diagnosed with breast cancer, half healthy. They discovered that women who consumed more colorful vegetables and fruits rich in carotenoids had a significantly lower risk of developing breast cancer.
God’s Design in Creation
The findings were striking: those with higher beta-carotene intake had a 46% reduced risk, while alpha-carotene lowered risk by 39%. Diets rich in beta-cryptoxanthin lowered breast cancer risk by 62%, and luteins and zeaxanthins reduced risk by 51%. These nutrients are abundant in God’s creation—dark leafy greens like kale and spinach, bright orange foods like sweet potatoes and pumpkins, and vibrant fruits such as tangerines and persimmons. Truly, the Lord has filled the earth with food not only to sustain us but to protect us. As Psalm 104:14 declares, “He makes grass grow for the cattle, and plants for people to cultivate—bringing forth food from the earth.”
A Call to Stewardship of the Body
This research reminds us that our bodies are the temple of the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 6:19). In a world where breast cancer touches countless families, embracing God’s colorful harvest can be one way to honor Him by caring for our health. It is not only wise but also an act of faith to choose the foods He has provided to strengthen and heal.

We thank You for the beauty of creation and the foods You have given us for health. We lift up all women and families touched by breast cancer. Bring healing, strength, and comfort. Help us to honor You by caring for our bodies and trusting in Your wisdom and provision. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
