“Priorities: Putting God First in Every Season”

The Lesson from the Leaking Roof
“Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and He will give you everything you need.” — Matthew 6:33 (NLT)
A simple story of a farmer and his fallen barn offers a profound truth: neglect always leads to collapse. When the farmer delayed repairing the roof—too busy when the weather was good, and too hindered when it rained—he lost what could have been preserved. Many believers face the same danger spiritually. When life feels smooth, prayer and worship are often neglected. Yet when storms come, we find it “too hard” to draw near to God.

When God Becomes a Convenience, Not a Priority
It’s easy to serve God when it fits comfortably into our schedule—but true faith is tested in our consistency. Jesus never promised that following Him would be convenient; He promised it would be worth it. In Luke 9:23, He calls His followers to “deny themselves, take up their cross daily, and follow Me.”
Our culture glorifies busyness, but busyness without godly priorities leads to burnout and spiritual dryness. God calls us to reorder our days—to make time for prayer, worship, and service not when it’s easy, but because it’s essential.

The Blessing of Putting God First
When we seek God’s Kingdom before everything else, He brings divine order to every area of life—our work, our relationships, and even our rest. Putting God first doesn’t mean neglecting daily responsibilities; it means letting Him lead them. As Proverbs 3:6 declares, “In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.” When God is first, everything else falls beautifully into place.

A Prayer for Right Priorities
Heavenly Father, help us to put You first in every decision and every day. Forgive us for letting comfort and convenience crowd out our devotion. Teach us to seek Your Kingdom above all else, trusting that You will provide everything we need. In Jesus’ name, amen.
