Bach Lunch series returns to downtown Lafayette with new Sunday Bach Brunch

LAFAYETTE, La. — A beloved downtown tradition that blends music, fellowship, and community connection is returning this spring, bringing with it a new opportunity for residents to gather and celebrate together. The popular outdoor concert series known as Bach Lunch will once again fill the heart of the city with music, and this year organizers are expanding the experience with a new Sunday event called Bach Brunch.

Hosted at Parc Sans Souci, the free concert series has long served as a gathering place where families, students, and downtown workers pause from their busy routines to enjoy live performances and local food. For many in the community, the event has become a reminder of the joy found in fellowship. Scripture echoes this spirit of gathering, reminding believers, “How good and pleasant it is when God’s people live together in unity” (Psalm 133:1).

A Tradition of Community and Fellowship

For years, Bach Lunch has offered more than music—it has created a space where neighbors reconnect and strangers share smiles over a meal and a song. Each performance transforms the park into a lively celebration of local culture and creativity.

Organizers say the series reflects the welcoming spirit of Lafayette. Downtown workers often step away from their desks, families bring picnic blankets, and visitors discover the vibrant artistic energy that defines the city.

From a Christian perspective, moments like these reflect God’s design for community. The Bible reminds believers of the importance of fellowship and shared joy: “And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together” (Hebrews 10:24–25).

Introducing Bach Brunch: Music on a Sunday Afternoon

This year, Downtown Lafayette Unlimited is expanding the tradition with the launch of Bach Brunch, a Sunday version of the popular concert series designed to bring the community together on weekends as well.

Jessica Hauerwas, executive director of the organization, said the addition is meant to create even more opportunities for people to gather and enjoy downtown Lafayette.

“Bach Lunch has long been a tradition that brings people together during the workday,” Hauerwas said. “Introducing Bach Brunch allows us to extend that spirit into the weekend so families and friends can enjoy local music and experience downtown in a new way.”

The inaugural Bach Brunch is scheduled for Sunday, April 12, and will feature a performance by Certified Blues. Organizers are encouraging guests to bring lawn chairs and blankets to relax in the open air while enjoying brunch options and live entertainment.

For believers, such gatherings reflect the joy of shared life in community. Ecclesiastes 3:13 teaches, “That each of them may eat and drink, and find satisfaction in all their toil—this is the gift of God.”

The Return of a Lunchtime Favorite

Following the Sunday debut, the traditional lunchtime concerts will return on Friday, May 29, when Bach Lunch resumes its weekly format. The season will open with a performance by Louisiana musician Grace Novosad.

Food vendors will begin serving at 11 a.m., with live music filling the park from noon to 1 p.m. As in years past, the event is expected to draw crowds eager to enjoy local flavors and the lively rhythms of Acadiana’s music scene.

Community leaders hope the concerts will continue to serve as a reminder that even simple moments—sharing food, listening to music, and gathering with neighbors—can strengthen bonds and lift spirits.

As Scripture reminds believers, “Whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God” (1 Corinthians 10:31), even the simple joy of music and fellowship under the open sky.

Prayer for the Community

Heavenly Father,
We thank You for the gift of music, fellowship, and community. As Lafayette gathers for these concerts in the park, we pray for unity, safety, and joy among all who attend. Bless the musicians, organizers, vendors, and families who come together in celebration. May these moments of laughter and connection strengthen relationships and remind us of the goodness of gathering in peace. Let Your love shine through every conversation and every note of music. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
